My name is Megan Atkinson, and I am a new Special Effects artist.
I am a graduate of the cosmetics program at Durham College and am currently enrolled in the Advanced Special Effects program at Sheridan College. I have always found love and beauty in monsters and other creatures, and expressed them through art. Starting with painting on paper and later started to paint my face to recreate characters from Monster High by the age of 10, mixing makeup products like foundations and eyeshadows to get the right skin color of the monster dolls. But my true love for the industry began after I watched the behind-the-scenes footage of Alice in Wonderland and saw Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter transform into the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen. I think I had watched the makeup applications to that movie about ten times in the year I had gotten the Blu-ray copy.
As I had entered my adult years, I realized that my love for makeup had grown into almost an obsession with products and a love for character development and movie makeup. Trying my best to replicate creatures and props I had seen on film. I had decided that SPFX and prop making was my passion in life and had begun practicing special effects, illusion, and beauty makeup in and out of my time in school.
I am excited to introduce you to my portfolio and the evolution of my work as a SPFX artist as I continue to grow in the special effects world.
